Apprentice Arborist Role Profile

We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Arboriculture team in PCC’s Street Scene department. 

The team has the responsibility to promote, manage and enhance Plymouth City Council’s tree estate in a manner that delivers maximum benefits for people and nature. 

The apprenticeship will be part of the Green Minds programme, providing opportunities for learning with project partners about integrating rewilding principles and nature-based solutions into an urban environment. 

This role, as part of the arboriculture team, is responsible for providing and developing a high standard of arboriculture practices across the city, covering all aspects of tree surgery, ensuring that all regulations concerning practices and the use of specialist equipment are met, engaging positively and safeguarding the public at all times. 

This Level 2 apprenticeship will provide the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours in all aspects of arborist duties. 

This will include managing tree health, dismantling of trees and working in confined areas, whilst delivering a quality service to communities and ensuring that the PCC tree estate plays a significant role in responding to the climate emergency and enabling the sustainable growth of the City. 

The role will be responsible for working in line with the Council’s operational activities and in accordance with environmental legislation, British Standards and Codes of Practice and Health and Safety Guidelines.   

The training provider for this vacancy is Lynher Training.

Apprentice Horticulture Operative Role Profile

We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Grounds Maintenance team in PCC’s Street Scene department. 

The team has the responsibility to promote, manage and enhance Plymouth City Council’s green estate in a manner that delivers maximum benefits for people and nature. 

The apprenticeship will be part of the Green Minds programme, providing opportunities for learning with project partners about integrating rewilding principles and nature-based solutions into an urban environment. 

This role, as part of the wider team, is responsible for providing and developing a high standard of horticulture practices across the city, covering all aspects of horticulture, ensuring that all regulations and the use of specialist equipment are met as well as engaging positively with and safeguarding the public at all times. 

This Level 2 apprenticeship will provide the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours in all aspects of horticulture duties. 

This will include managing a range of parks and green space settings delivering a quality service to communities and ensuring that the PCC green estate plays a significant role in responding to the climate emergency and enabling the sustainable growth of the City. 

The role will be responsible for working in line with the Council’s operational activities and in accordance with environmental legislation, British Standards and Codes of Practice and Health and Safety Guidelines.
